Trees and timber 

Within the trees and timber industry, it is estimated that there are over 10,000 businesses employing around 30,000 people.

The industry includes the care and management of trees, woodlands and forests and the production of wood and timber products. It is made up of many different types of businesses including arboricultural firms, forestry establishments, forestry harvesting and timber processing.

Forestry is the science and practice of managing forests and woodlands of all sizes, raising young trees in nurseries and producing timber. Activities include thinning and felling trees using chainsaws or harvesting machines.

Timber processing involves timber marking, measurement, sawing, and transportation.

Arboriculture can involve planting, caring for and maintaining trees and woodlands primarily for the conservation of rural landscapes and the urban and domestic environment.
