Joel Lodge, Assistant Manager, Pembrokeshire Fish Farm

I have had a passion for animals, and specifically fish, from an early age and a career in aquaculture seemed a natural course for me to follow. I graduated from Bristol University with a degree in Zoology, and following this I went to Zimbabwe, where I was lucky enough to work on a crocodile farm, on a voluntary basis. I worked in the catfish hatchery, and was also involved with catching fish from the wild for breeding purposes. When I came back, I started work in Pembrokeshire, and I am currently studying for a certificate from the Institute of Fish Management.

During a typical day I am required to feed, grade and process the fish and maintain the farm generally. Ideally, in the future, I would like to own my own fish farm. I would also look towards working abroad, possibly in South Africa, where it's slightly warmer than Wales!

I find my job very satisfying, as I love working with the fish and being in such a beautiful, countryside environment.
